Mica Paris on working with Gok Wan

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Talented lady and Gok Wan’s mate Mica Paris is about to burst back onto the music scene with a new album.

She talks to Female First all about it - and of course, what everyone also wants to know, what it’s like to work with Gok Wan!

This is what she said about working with him on Miss Naked Beauty:

Aww it was wicked, I love Gok! He’s awesome and so amazing! the guy is so down to earth, he’s so not affected by the fame and everything. You know, he loves women and I love Gok, we just did our first show and he was right at the front shouting “Mica!” he’s just lovely, and such a supporter. Love him!

She’s a lucky lady. All the best woth the album Mica!

Should Gok Wan make-over Susan Boyle?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Unless you’ve been on another planet for the past week or do you can’t have failed to have come across the reality TV show phenomenon that is Susan Boyle.

This fabulously talented lady stunned the judges of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, as well as the general public of Britain itself, with her incredible singing voice.

However, most of the incredulity seems to be a consequence of the fact that, from looking at Susan, people did not expect her to sound the way she did. It’s not so much that people are amazed by her talent (talented as she), it’s that such a person could be so talented.

This just goes to show how much, as a society, we judge a book by its cover.

So should somebody like Gok Wan give Susan Boyle a makeover to make the cover match the book?

Some say yes, why shouldn’t she get a bit of pampering? Others say no, she’s perfect just as she is and why should she have to be made to conform to what we expect a singer to look like?

From my point of view, Gok Wan makeovers are more designed to benefit the recipient rather than those around them. He makes people over because they feel down about themselves and they need a confidence boost - not because he thinks that they really need to look better. He thinks that as long as people are happy then they are great just the way they are, as his show Miss Naked Beauty clearly demonstrated.

Susan Boyle is happy and bursting with personality and confidence, which really shines through. So if you ask me she doesn’t need a makeover from Gok Wan - or anybody else for that matter.

Janet Street Porter on what it’s like to get Gokked!

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

I love Janet Street Porter. I think TV (and the world in general) needs more women out there with big personalities who aren’t afraid to say what they think and don’t care what people say.

So when she agreed to a Gok Wan fashion makeover I knew it was going to be good!

In this article she talks us through what it was like to work with Gok Wan. He gave her wardrobe a good going over, then took her high street shopping to find an outfit for her to wear to the Brits.

This was the end result. - I think she looks fab. Good work Gok!

And did Gok find anything scary lurking in JSP’s wardrobe? Of course he did!

“I’d got out a few of my best outfits from the past ten years, but before he could shout ‘Go, girl!’ he was rummaging in the cupboard on the hot scent of a fully fledged fashion disaster.

He plucked out a silver leather mini dress and said: ‘What’s this? You must have looked like a jacket potato on Bonfire Night!’ “

:D

Not one but two new Gok Wan interviews!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Gok Wan fans will be thrilled to read these two fab new interviews with Gok.

The first one is from the Daily Record. In it he talks about his new series of Gok’s Fashion Fix and how he got his hands on the wardrobes of Janet Street Porter and Kirstie Allsopp for the series.

He also gives his thoughts on Trinny and Susannah:

“I bumped into Trinny when I filmed Celebrity Apprentice. I had never met her before. I called her a posh bird, but jokes aside, I thought she was very kind, sincere and accommodating.

“People want me to have a big row with them, and it’s not my style.

“I wish I could say Trinny came along with her big Gucci handbag and then slapped me around the face when I met her - but she didn’t! She was lovely.”

Ah Gok, kind as ever!

He also completed the Guardian’s ‘This much I know’ interview.

Fave quote:

“People think you go home and be a celeb, sipping Laurent-Perrier and listening to classical music. You don’t. You go home and wash some pants in the sink.”

Classic!

Gok Wan to take part in Celebrity Apprentice 2009

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

This is very exciting news. Gok Wan is going to be one of 8 celebrities taking part in a special Comic Relief edition of the Apprentice series with Alan Sugar. I’d love to see how Gok reacts to Sir Alan in the boardroom. I’ll bet with a whole heap of cheeky comebacks - don’t let me down now Gok!

And the other participants? Jack Dee, Gerald Ratner, Patsy Palmer, Carol Vorderman, Ruby Wax, Michelle Mone, Fiona Phillips, Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr. :)

This sounds almost too good to be true - I do hope my sources are correct.  I bet Gok Wan and Ruby Wax get on like a house on fire - can you imagine?

Take part in series 2 of Gok’s Fashion Fix!

Friday, January 9th, 2009

The producers of Gok’s Fashion Fix are looking for women to take part in series 2. According to the source, they’re looking for women in Northamptonshire but it may be open to women everywhere and that’s just the local spin on it. And they’re particularly looking for plus size women.

This is what a representaive from the show had to say:

“We know that looking good can make you feel great, but not everyone gets it right when it comes to fashion.

“We want to help guide the great women of Great Britain, who’ve fallen foul in the fashion stakes and just don’t know how to dress for their shape and size.

“If you’re a larger lady, who wants to be fashionable, but doesn’t know how, then get in touch. Email or write to us and describe your fashion dilemma and why you’re worthy of the mother of all make-overs.”

If you would like to take part then write to: Gok’s Team, 5th Floor, Endemol, Shepherds Building Central, Charecroft Way, London, W14 0EE.

Hurray for Gok Wan, helping all women look gorgeous… yet again :)
